Our
Story
Welcome to Tall Pine Vineyard!

Our family-owned vineyard sits on a hillside along the San Juan Ridge in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where we dry-farm organic Cabernet Franc grapes near the South Fork of the Yuba River. Located just outside the Gold Rush-era towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, The Ridge straddles both the Tahoe National Forest and the Yuba River Watershed.

Our mountain grown Cabernet Franc grapes draw their distinctive, vibrant character from the Ridge’s terroir: soils of salt-and-pepper granite, forged by millennia of geological storytelling, plentiful Sierra sun, clean mountain air and the natural water sources that make this part of Northern California truly special.

The guardian of our vineyard —a towering Ponderosa Pine —stands sentinel over our vines, its presence a testament to the enduring spirit of this magnificent and beautiful part of the northern Sierra Nevada.

Our Founder, Eric the Younger
Tending to Tall Pine Vineyard is a labor of love for me. By day, I'm a busy journalist editing and managing a team of reporters for a national news organization. But in my spare time I truly enjoy caring for the grapes, maintaining the property, and tackling the many tasks—both tedious and challenging—that come with growing grapes and making wine. I'm grateful to my brother Gerrit, as well as Josh, Juan de la Sierra, Ward, Ron, Lisa, Olivia and other friends who lend a hand whenever they can. A special shout out to Brian Roeder, grape and wine whisperer extraordinaire for his guidance.
